The close cousin to the late Dahlia Gillespie, and the senior member of the Hollow Commune, means that Avalynn has a lot to live up to.
Born in the same part of Oklahoma as her cousin, Avalynn is the third child of the Gillespie family to show magical prowess. As a blood mage she developed healing abilities that the family had not seen in two generations. She grew up with family teachings, staying well away of any of the different groups that trained, collected, or otherwise bothered those with mage blood.
Ava didn’t truly begin to develop her powers until, at age 18, she moved to New York to work with her older cousin Dahlia and her partner, Isobel Dominguez. In New York, she trained heavily, expanding her powers and beginning to learn their limitations while helping Izzie and Dahlia handle a demon nest. However, both of her cohorts migrated to Seattle before her training had truly completed.
Ava stayed in New York until the death of her cousin, intent on finding her cousin’s murderers, and also on filling her position in the Hollow. As a member of the commune, she began to expand and develop her powers even more, pushing herself to her extreme limitations. She also learned to use guns, knives, whips, and a bow and arrows as methods of offense.
As fellow members have died or disappeared, Ava has remained a constant in the organization for five years. With the disappearance of Alex, and the death of Kyose, Ava has become the de facto leader for the past several months.
Since taking over the leadership mantle, Ava has sought to transform the tactics and priorities of the commune, and has so far seen relative success in her endeavors. How long that success will carry is yet to be seen.
preternatural repertoire
- "heal others" the ability to mend the wounds of others, at the expense of her own energy, limited only by her own stamina. Can mitigate the effect of poisons and diseases, as well as heal physical wounds. Will fall into a coma-like state if she over-taxes herself.
- "heal self" naturally heals quite quickly. While not immortal or invincible, it takes considerably more effort to kill her than it would another person. Poisons and disease have no effect on her.
